Issues of the Presidential Election

This week, we are focusing on the presidential election and the issues involved in the election. There are many issues to consider in this, including immigration, the economy, healthcare, contraception, and a multitude of others. However, as we have been talking about these issues, I have begun to wonder: Can any President really solve these issues by himself?
Now, let just look at things from perspective. We can agree that most presidents make promises before getting elected, but how many times can they actually come through on those promises? One possible problem with these promises is that they may be too extreme, like Newt Gingrich saying he would have the US colonize the moon. But I feel that a more likely cause for the failure of some promises would be that people put their all their faith in the President to solve the problem and they don't do anything about it for themselves.
This leads me to my main point which is, no matter who gets elected or nominated, no president can fix the problems in this country by himself. Just look at the economy for instance. We talked about if there is universal healthcare, people would be paid more. Now this theoretically would help a struggling economy because the people would then spend their money on investments and in stores. However, in a bad economy like this, who is to say that a person would be wary of spending their money, and would instead save it. The same thing goes for big business owners. There is another school of thought where you lower taxes on business and the economy will get better because the businessmen will create jobs and help the economy grow. However, these businessmen could also just save and keep the money themselves. In addition to this, they could lay off people because they would want to keep more of the money.
Therefore, I just can't bring myself to believe that a single person elected would be able to fix all the country's problems.
